14 February 2024
Final week after I wrote that Charles Bier had seen two peregrines at Pittsburgh’s East Liberty Presbyterian Church in January, Adam Knoerver responded that he has too.
Final week, out of my workplace window (which seems to be on the church from Friendship), I might undoubtedly see a raptor excessive up and stooping to dive bomb some small birds and puzzled if it is perhaps a peregrine. I’ll preserve an eye fixed out and see if anything is brewing.

Later that day Adam checked onsite and instantly discovered each peregrines.
Confirmed peregrines on the church simply now strolling previous. One darted off the ledge and flew over me and rejoined the opposite that was presumably consuming (small feathers began to fall down).

He despatched images of the church steeple with circles indicating the peregrines’ areas. Their favourite spot is behind the “railing” on the west-northwest aspect, a probable alternative for a nest location.

At the moment I used to be in a position to spot what seemed to be the feminine (bigger of the 2, so…) perched atop the Walnut on Highland condo throughout from the church. The chook has a really distinct and outstanding peach-y shade on the high of the breast, and the opposite chook (presumably the male) flew off the tower, circled round, and located one other perch excessive atop the cross.

Due to Adam’s efforts we all know there’s a brand new peregrine pair in East Liberty.
In case you want to verify on them, check out the steeple on the west-northwest aspect that faces S. Whitfield Road.

And in case you’re questioning if the Pitt peregrines can see them, the reply is “Sure however in a roundabout way.”
The Cathedral of Studying nest faces south-southeast. The East Liberty peregrines face north-northwest. They’re 1.82 miles aside however their view from nest to nest is indirect.
